Tyh Simms

Tyh is an ottawa based singer/songwriter with roots in rock, pop-punk and grunge.

One afternoon he decided to grab his dad's electric guitar and plugged it into the amp in the corner of the room. He had taken a few piano lessons but wasn't overly interested in playing music until he discovered Blink-182 and picked up the guitar. He started hiting the strings harder and faster without playing any chord in particular and thought to himself "This. Is. Awesome." He started writing songs in highschool and formed bands with friends. Headed into college with a new taste for what people called "Emo" and "Melodic Post-Hardcore", Tyh continued to start various bands with friends and jammed with established local bands. During this time he recorded rough acoustic demos.

As time went on, he continued to write acoustic songs, performed open-mics/acoustic shows and played in bands until he met a girl. A family, education and career later he had sold his gear and quit the bands but continued to play and write acoustic songs. He was happy, he had purpose and he thought this was enough. Half a decade later, while scrolling through Netflix he noticed the documentary "Foo Fighters: Back and Forth". As he watched attentively he thought to himself, "It isn't enough, is it...". Reinvigorated, Tyh knew that he needed all three, the family, the career and Punk Rock. He spent the next five years learning to record, mix and master songs from YouTube videos. He rented office space and recorded two demos (alt-rock/pop-punk) that sounded so awful they were sparcely shared.

Post 2020 COVID, Tyh was itching to start a band and do shows. He hit up kijiji, found a drummer, and released a demo under the moniker She Sets Fires which included the songs "Mercy" and "Oh Darlin'". In 2023, Rick, a friend from the band Dancing On Fire reached out to Tyh to see if he'd be interested in picking up the Bass and playing a few shows with DOF. His answer was "$@&# Yeah". In December of 2023, while working on a new project with the drummer of DOF, Tyh recorded a handful of acoustic demos on the side which he released as "A Little Greedy Demo".
